Improving Employee Performance Through Training
21st
Century Prep Project
Project Steps
Steps that will be involved:
- Decide on the training team
. Some
thought should be given to compatibility of schedules and complementary
skills. While some of you may get the willies just thinking about the prospect
of working in teams, I have no intention of turning you lose to sink or swim.
To help you make your group experience more pleasant and productive, I have
provided you with recommendations from experts for facilitating smoother group
functioning on the course web site. And each team will be required to prepare
and abide by a team
contract (5% of grade) (example available
on course web site). Due February 7.
Prepare/conduct a needs assessment (7.5% of grade).
This means of identifying the parameters for workshop content will generally be
accomplished through interviews and focus groups. Due February 7 when we
make the site visit.
Develop a list of objectives or outcomes for your module (7.5% of grade).
Based on the needs analysis, you will decide and delineate what participants
will be able to do new and/or differently after attending your workshop. These
objectives should drive all other decisions relative to your workshop, so this
step is key! Due February 21.
Based on the results of the needs assessment, Design
your training module so as to meet your
objectives. You should make every effort to incorporate principles of adult
learning, which we will have reviewed in class in some detail. Teams are
expected to consult with Ms. Branch as needed as they develop their plans, in
order to create a mutually satisfactory final product. "Lesson
Plan" and "Instructor Preparation & Planning Checklist" due
one week prior to presentation.
Meet with professor (2.5% of grade).
Earlier, more frequent contact is encouraged. However, the entire team must meet
with the professor (at the absolute latest) 2 weeks prior to delivery of the
workshop for a quality check.
Based on the design of your training module, Develop
the evaluation for your training (7.5% of grade) to
be completed by module participants. Due last day of class.
Conduct the training session (20% of grade).
This may include features like experiential exercises, videos, participatory
cases, role-plays, lecture and/or class discussion. If you are using software,
make sure it is compatible with the available computer system. Be sure to plan
ahead if you need any special audio-visual equipment, like camcorders – for
doing homemade videos – easels, and paper.
Gather evaluation information from
participants. Feedback from participants will constitute 5% of your grade on
this dimension. The remaining 15% will be based on the observation/evaluation by
the course instructor and YWCA staff members attending the session.
The
final 10%
of your grade associated with this project will come peer evaluations by group
members. Each student will evaluate their own contributions, as well as those of
other team members. Students will be graded on their grading, meaning that you
had better have a very good reason for giving yourself and each of your group
members perfect scores. Final evaluations due one week after workshop
presentation.
