Administrative Experience:

Dean, School of Business and Technology, 2006-Present. The School of Business and Technology has two departments, Business and Computer Science, with over 700 undergraduate business majors, 102 computer science majors, 95 MBA students, 11 MSCIS students, 26 full-time faculty, and 17 part-time instructional academic staff.  It is fully accredited by AACSB International at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  The School also maintains four centers, including the Solutions for Economic Growth (SEG) Center, Center for Global Education, Center for Advanced Technology and Innovation, and Small Business Development Center.  The dean is the chief academic officer for the School and directly reports to the Chancellor and the Provost/Vice-Chancellor of the University. Major responsibilities include: coordination of the activities of the associate dean, department chairs, and support staff relating to the development and growth of the School and its departments; planning, developing, and evaluating academic programs; recruitment, evaluation, and retention of faculty; fiscal management of the School’s $2.7 million budget; communication to and among faculty and the admainistration, and generation of external funding.

 

Administrative Effectiveness:

Merit rating of 5 (scale of 1 to 5; 5 being the highest) for 2006-07, 2007-08, and 2008-09 in job performance as Dean of the School of Business and Technology.  Evaluation conducted by the Interim Provost/Vice Chancellor, Gerald Greenfield, March 30, 2007, June 19, 2008, and March 16, 2009, respectively.

                Administrative Experience:

Dean, College of Business and Technology, 2004-2006. The College of Business and Technology has over 1,800 undergraduate majors, 225 graduate students, 125 full-time faculty, and programs at the Macomb and Quad Cities campuses.  It is fully accredited by AACSB International at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  The College maintains an Executive Studies Center and publishes the Journal of Contemporary Business Issues.  The dean is the chief academic officer for the College and directly reports to the President and the Provost of the University. Major responsibilities include: coordination of the activities of the assistant to the dean, associate dean, department chairs, and support staff relating to the development and growth of the College and its departments; planning, developing, and evaluating academic programs; recruitment, evaluation, and retention of faculty; fiscal management of the College’s $10.8 million budget; communication to and among faculty and the admainistration, and generation of external funding. Faculty covered by collective bargaining agreement.

 

Chair, Department of Marketing and Finance, 1997-2004. The 37-member department consists of 25 faculty members, eight graduate assistants, two secretaries, two student workers and over 800 students in one of four programs, marketing management, supply chain management, finance, and international business. The programs are offered at the Macomb and Quad Cities campuses. Major responsibilities include: supporting the professional development efforts of the faculty; representing the department within the College and with other institutional leaders; working with faculty to develop and implement programmatic and curricular innovations; supporting the development of external funding; promoting collaborations within and across departments; managing the department budget of $1.63 million; recruiting of faculty; evaluating faculty for retention, promotion and tenure; and class scheduling. Faculty covered by collective bargaining agreement.

 

Acting Chair, Department of Marketing, Finance and International Business, 1974-1975. Served as chairperson of a 27-member department (17 faculty members, six graduate assistants, two secretaries, two student workers) while the permanent chairperson was on a leave of absence. Responsible for faculty recruitment; evaluation of faculty for retention, promotion, and tenure; budget preparation and administration; class schedules; and all other activities associated with the position.

"Dutch Auction Tender Offers: Bid Characteristics, Outcomes and Uses."  A $2,500 grant awarded by The WIU College of Business Alumni Funded Research Program, May 1992. The project was completed and subsequently published in the American Business Review in January 1995.  Earlier, the paper was presented at the Midwest Academy of Finance and Insurance conference held in Chicago during March 1993.   At the conference, the paper received the IRWIN DISTINGUISHED PAPER AWARD and later published as the feature article in Midwest Review of Finance and Insurance  (Spring 1993).

Attended the 2003 Trilateral Project Directors' Meeting, Program for North American Mobility in Higher Education, held in San Diego, California, October 17-19, 2003.  The meeting was held to provide various perspectives to international education and was attended by business, government, and higher education officials from Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

 

Served as a program consultant, member of the steering committee, and presenter at the 2nd International Business Education Conference, entitled "Developing International Business Leaders for the New Millennium."  The College of Business and Technology at Western Illinois University and the Young Americas Business Trust of the Organization of American States were co- sponsors of the event held September 24-27, 2003 in Washington DC.

Session leader and member of a delegation of Western Illinois University administrators and faculty that attended NACIA Consortium Meeting, Program for North American Mobility in Higher Education, Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, May 14-18, 2002.  The meeting was held to discuss consortium activities and plans for international education in the coming year.  Faculty and administrators from the six member schools in Canada, Mexico, and the United States attended the meeting.

 

Participated in a one-day summit at the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, D.C. for education, business and government leaders from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico (April 17, 2002).  The focus of the discussion was on educational interdependence in the Americas and collaborative relationships among education, business and government.

Member of a delegation of Western Illinois University administrators that visited three educational institutions in Mexico, Colegio de Bachilleres del Estado de Querétaro (COBAQ) in Querétaro, Instituto Superior de Estudios Commerciales (ISEC) in Mexico City, and the Instituto Panamericano de Alta Dirección de Empresas (Universidad Panamericana - IPADE) in Mexico City, to explore the possibility for student/faculty exchanges and other opportunities for cooperation among institutions.  Also attended an all day symposium at the Universidad of Panamericana on certification of accounting programs in Mexico.  The visitation was made July 7-15, 2001 as part of the "Education and Mobility in International Business for North American Consortium for International Advancement" FIPSE grant from the U.S. Government.

 

Attended the meeting for Education and Mobility in International Business Education for the North American Consortium for International Advancement held in Veracruz, Mexico.  The meeting was arranged to discuss international consortia -- institutions working to promote student mobility, curriculum development, faculty interaction, and new approaches to teaching and learning. Institutions of higher education from Mexico, Canada, and the United States were represented at the meeting, which was hosted by Universdad Veracruzana, January 25-27, 2001.

Served as a program consultant, member of the steering committee, and session chair at the conference, entitled "Partnerships for the Education of Future Global Business Leaders: A Conference on Educational, Business, and Governmental Alliances."  FIPSE (The Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education), U.S. Department of Education and Human Resource Development Canada (HRDC), September 20-23, 2000, sponsored the conference, held in Washington DC.

 

Co-developed with Dr. Deborah B. Beyer a Canadian Travel/Study Tour program, entitled "NAFTA -- The Canadian Perspective" for the Summer 2000.  This unique travel and study abroad program provided business and foreign language students the opportunity to experience first-hand the business, political and cultural environment that exists in the French-speaking areas of Ontario and Quebec, Canada.  A visit to Ottawa, Montreal, Sherbrooke, and Quebec City was arranged to provide a basis for cross-cultural comparisons.  The study tour was made in July 2000 as part of the "Education and Mobility in International Business for North American Consortium for International Advancement" FIPSE grant from the U.S. Government.

 

Attended the 2000 Trilateral Project Directors' Meeting in Austin, Texas.  The meeting was held to discuss international consortia -- institutions working to promote student mobility, curriculum development, faculty interaction, and new approaches to teaching and learning.  Institutions of higher education from Mexico, Canada, and the United States were represented at the meeting, which was sponsored by FIPSE (Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education), U.S. Department of Education, March 16-19, 2000.

 

Member of a delegation of Western Illinois University and Western Kentucky University faculty which visited four universities in Mexico to explore the possibility for student/faculty exchanges and other opportunities for cooperation among institutions. Visitation was made in November 1999 as part of the "Education and Mobility in International Business for North American Consortium for International Advancement" FIPSE grant from the U.S. Government.

 

Co-developed with Dr. Deborah B. Beyer a French Travel/Study Tour program for the Summer 1999.  This unique travel and study abroad program provided business and foreign language students the opportunity to develop a better understanding of the business, political and cultural environment that exists in the French-speaking areas of Belgium, France and Switzerland.  A visit to London, England was also added for an additional business and political perspective and to provide a basis for further cross-cultural comparisons.
